We hope you will join us in
Edmonton on Monday, June 2nd 2008
All of us at The Hong Kong-Canada
Business Association (HKCBA) invite you to participate in our
2008 HKCBA National Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum
at the Shaw Conference Centre, Edmonton, Alberta on Monday,
June 2nd 2008, which will have the theme "Your
Smart Link in China: Hong Kong".
HKCBA organizes this annual Canada-Hong
Kong Business Forum event to encourage Canadian
business particularly the small and medium enterprises
- to take the opportunity and initiative to expand their business
activities by taking advantage of the exciting opportunities
that are available .. now.. and increasingly in future .. in
the rapidly growing China marketplace. And to assist by providing
advice and example as to how they may do this, in confidence
and safety, using Hong Kong as their business platform to other
parts of China and South East Asia. Our goal is to attract approximately
300 interested Canadian business people to this special Canada-Hong
Kong Business Forum.
HKCBA, one of the Founding Members
of The Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide,
is one of Canadas largest bi-lateral trade associations
with over 1300 members in 8 major cities across Canada, and has
had as its Mission since our establishment in 1984:
To
help its members to do business between Hong Kong and Canada
and through Hong Kong with the rest of China
and to South East Asia, and with each other in Canada |

HONG
KONG DAY IN EDMONTON |
|

Welcome to the 2008 National
Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum!
On
behalf of the Government of Canada and Western Economic Diversification
Canada (WD), I would like to welcome delegates and guests to
the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association's National Canada-Hong
Kong Business Forum.
This fourth annual event provides
an important venue for entrepreneurs and business leaders throughout
Canada to learn about exciting international export markets in
the Pacific Rim. By bringing together a diverse range of speakers
who have the expertise and knowledge to guide companies in overcoming
the challenges of entering emerging markets, the forum helps
facilitate new economic opportunities for Canadian businesses.
The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of strengthening
Canada's linkages with emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific
region. Canada is building a competitive Gateway economy that
is grounded in partnerships among different orders of government,
industry and economic development organizations. Through the
Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, our Government
has committed more than a billion dollars to establish Canada's
West coast ports as a major gateway between Asia and North America,
and to integrate those ports with road and rail connections reaching
major Canadian and U.S. economic centres.
My department, Western Economic
Diversification Canada, is also working with the four western
provinces to enable them to capitalize on new opportunities for
trade and investment with the Asia-Pacific region. This includes
a WD investment of $30 million toward the creation of a container
terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia. The
terminal, which opened last September, now offers the fastest
shipping route between North America and Asia. WD has also invested
in the Port Alberta initiative, which has the potential to establish
the Edmonton region as a multi-modal, inland warehousing and
distribution hub capable of moving materials and products to
anywhere in North America.
On behalf of WD, I applaud everyone
who contributed valuable time and resources to making the 2008
National Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum a reality. WD is proud
to support a forum that coaches and connects entrepreneurs on
a global scale, and I encourage you to take advantage of every
opportunity this important event has to offer.
The Honourable Rona Ambrose,
P.C., M.P.
President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada,
Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and
Minister of Western Economic Diversification

I am pleased to welcome delegates and
guests to Edmonton, Alberta's Capital City, for the Hong Kong-Canada
Business Association's National Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum
on June 2nd, 2008 at the Shaw Conference Centre. The City of
Edmonton is proud to host this important event, and I was happy
to proclaim Monday, June 2nd, 2008 as Hong Kong Day in the City
of Edmonton.
The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association
continues to help local businesses to forge trade relationships
with Chinese and Southeast Asian markets. I would like to thank
everyone who has worked hard to put together this forum. I would
also like to express my gratitude to the sponsors for their generous
support of an event that will promote Edmonton businesses as
ideal partners in international trade.
Edmonton is a multicultural city with
a vibrant economy. We have a diverse population of over a million
people, festivals throughout the year and a vibrant, urban spirit.
I offer you best wishes for a successful forum, and I encourage
you to take some time to explore the exciting attractions and
entertainment our city has to offer.
Yours truly,
Stephen Mandel
Mayor
