MESSAGE FROM THE HKCBA
(WINNIPEG SECTION) PRESIDENT
 Dear
Members and Interested Parties:
Today, every Canadian company requires a "China Strategy".
From sourcing to manufacturing, distributing, marketing or selling
in China we must have a presence. Our organization's mandate
is to assist our members in exactly that, enhancing their business
strategies by using the ready made "Hong Kong Platform"
providing the expertise, experience, and networking to do business
in the amazing China market. All of our activities and events
are intended to meet that goal.
PARTICPATE
IN OUR ACTIVITIES
Our Winnipeg Chinese
New Year celebration brought together nearly 500 business partners
in February. A recent information breakfast on July 11th, with
Steven Wong of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC),
introduced approximately 100 business leaders in our city to
the opportunities available to them through partnering with Hong
Kong. Our Canadian sections, along with business leaders from
China, and friends form Hong Kong met in Toronto in April for
the 3rd annual Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum. The previous
year it had been held here in Winnipeg and we received recognition
from our international organization by winning the Special Initiatives
Award at the Hong Kong Forum in Hong Kong last Fall. We are in
the midst of planning a mission to Hong Kong in October to attend
the International Hong Kong Forum there with side trips to the
Pearl River Delta region. Yes, it has been a busy year, but this
is not the time to rest on past successes, we must look forward
to the great opportunities that lie ahead.
We are proud of our "Junior HKCBA" wing within the
Winnipeg section and have recently partnered with the University
of Manitoba to set up an endowment fund to provide bursaries
to students with interests in International trade. They will
be doing some fund raising with the assistance of our membership
via a golf tournament and some social events throughout the year.
The youth are our future and the Junior Section provides a platform
for young members to learn from, be exposed to, and to mentor
with our regular membership. They are considered full members
and participate in all HKCBA Winnipeg projects and events. If
you know of a student or young business person interested in
the Asia market, encourage them by having them join or perhaps
sponsor them through a low cost membership to our Junior HKCBA!
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Executive and General
Membership, I welcome you to our Section and look forward to
working with you on your China Project. Please take the time
to review the various sections of the Winnipeg and National HKCBA
web site, the information there is invaluable.

WELCOME TO
THE HKCBA WINNIPEG SECTION
Welcome to the Winnipeg Section
of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association.
Over the last year we have been involved with many projects that
are building solid linkages between Western Canada (Winnipeg)
and our Hong Kong and Mainland China associates.
The continuing mandate is to educate, network and help our members
pursue solid business connections in the rapidly growing China
marketplace. As a bi-lateral trade organization we encourage
two-way trade that explores opportunities to supply Canadian
goods and services to the sophisticated Hong Kong market and
the new opportunity markets in Mainland China.
As well, we see the benefits of using China's "Factory to
the World" as a partner for progressive Canadian manufacturers
to use to lower certain input cost and make their final Canadian
product more competitive in world markets.
WINNIPEG - Home to the 2006 National HKCBA Canada Hong Kong Business
Forum
- Winnipeg was very excited
to host the 2006 National HKCBA Canada Hong Kong Business Forum
on May 29th, 2006 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. This was
the second Forum held in Canada after the very successful 2005
Ottawa Forum, where over 350 people form Canada and overseas
shared ideas, opportunities and fellowship with the focus of
using Hong Kong as the best platform.
- The 2007 Canada-Hong Kong
Business Forum was held in April 2007 in Toronto. The Winnipeg
Section sent a delegation to participate and also provided logistics
support learned from the Forum in Winnipeg.
- Be sure to attend the 2008
Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum being held in Edmonton Alberta.

Winnipeg Launches
"Junior HKCBA" Section
HKCBA recognizes the importance
of the inclusion of our Canadian youth in our association's programs
and on August 24, 2005, Winnipeg launched our own Junior HKCBA
Section to be an important branch of our Winnipeg membership.
Junior members are able to join in all the activities of the
HKCBA at a reduced cost to encourage a strong legacy in our organization.

MANITOBA MISSION
to the 2007 HONG KONG FORUM
Join us in Hong Kong October 6 - 12, 2007
Open exclusively to members
of Hong Kong Business Associations, the Hong Kong Forum provides
access to leading experts and the latest opportunities in China
and the region.
Mission participants network with worldwide associates, gather
business intelligence, and work with a team of experienced traders
as they sharpen their 'China Strategy'. Business Matching services
are also available through the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
In 2006, Winnipeg was honored
at the Hong Kong Forum with an Outstanding Initiative Award by
the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide.
The award was for the Winnipeg
based Canadian Forum that occurred in May 2006. the Federation
judges felt that from all the special events that occurred in
the previous year, the Winnipeg Forum topped the competition
for its promotion of Hong Kong, cooperation with business and
community organizations, and the raising of awareness of the
trade opportunities that are present in the region. Over 400
attended various events during the Forum and were provided the
most up-to-date information by speakers from across Canada, Hong
Kong, and Mainland China.

Organizing Committee receive the Outstanding Initiative Award
from officials of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations
Worldwide. Congratulations to all who assisted in bringing this
