Community Engagement

The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association supports university students across the country through a number of programs led at the National and Section levels.

We are committed to supporting students and budding entrepreneurs in their efforts to strengthen Canada-Hong Kong and Canada-Asia relations. Through scholarships and tapping into our vast network, we aim to help young business professionals thrive by building the skills and connections they need to become the leaders of tomorrow.

HKCBA Calgary

Do you have an interest in business, entrepreneurship, technology, development, sustainability, language/culture or education in Hong Kong, China, and/or other Asian countries? Each year the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) in Calgary awards two scholarships to students from the University of Calgary to help turn their ideas into reality.

HKCBA National

Over the past 3 years, the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association has hosted the Hong Kong – Canada Investment Pitch Competition to provide students and recent graduates across Canada with a tangible opportunity to showcase their business idea to a panel of seasoned professionals.

We choose the "best of the best" submissions from across the country to compete in our competition, a flagship event at our HKCBA National Conference.

Teams had been working on a business idea that connects Canada to Hong Kong or leverages the "Canada - Hong Kong" advantage to conduct business between Canada and other parts of Asia, and were in the running for prizes including:

  • Cash prizes and seed money to put towards their business idea
  • Consulting services to help get their business from concept to market
  • Trip for two to Hong Kong to attend the Annual Hong Kong Forum

Congratulations to our 2018 winner WeavAir, offering advanced sensors & predictive analytics platform that reduce maintenance costs associated with high value air distribution systems, while saving energy and improving the indoor air quality.

HKCBA Vancouver

The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association Vancouver Section partnered with the University of British Columbia on two endowment awards which provide long-term sustained funding to support future leaders today and for years to come, ensuring that all talented students have similar opportunities to pursue their goals and make a difference. The two annual scholarships assist:

  • Full-time commerce graduate students to study as exchange students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • Graduate students who have an academic focus on Asia to undertake formal studies or project research in Hong Kong

Since establishment, awards have supported 42 students totaling $128,200

"My research is focused on Cantonese-English bilingual speech. While this work is important and relevant to Vancouver, many of the experts in this field are based on Hong Kong. Your generosity enables me to pursue new, rich collaborations and make connections between UBC and several universities in Hong Kong. I plan to be a visiting student with one or more labs and pursue lines of research I would not otherwise be able to."
